Rare Birds Foundation will provide grant awardees up to $800 towards:

The cost of your choice of Caregiver Retreat

Travel to and from the retreat
To be considered for this grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be a PARENT or PRIMARY CAREGIVER of a child (under age 18 or dependent adult child). Caregivers may include biological, adoptive, or foster parents or legal guardians and must be actively involved in providing daily, ongoing care. BEREAVED PARENTS may also apply.

The child must have ADSL Deficiency Disorder or a related purine disorder requiring ongoing care beyond typical parenting. This may include but is not limited to medical monitoring, therapies, supervision, feeding, toileting, communication, and ambulation. Parents are not required to disclose medical records or the child's specific diagnosis to be eligible. A letter from a physician may be requested.

Applicant must be available to attend the full duration of the retreat and be willing and able to arrange care for their child during the retreat and during all necessary travel time. (Limited support may be available for arranging childcare.)

Applicant must agree to share a photo from the retreat with Rare Birds Foundation for marketing purposes and be willing to complete a post-retreat feedback survey and/or submit a testimonial.

Applicant can not have received a Respite Retreat Grant from Rare Birds Foundation for 12 months prior to applying for another round.

Application window is open between May 19th, 2026 and June 2, 2026

Grantees will be notified via email on June 16th.

Retreats must occur between Jan 1, 2026 and July 1st, 2027. (If the retreat has already occurred you must submit receipts and documentation to receive funding. Approval may be subject to verification from retreat administrator.)
